Who we are

This website has been created by South West Baptist Church (SWBC) of Ōtautahi / Christchurch. We created this website to support kiwis to welcome refugees into our neighbourhoods.

SWBC was one of four community groups that welcomed refugees through the first pilot programme in mid-2018. More of that story can be found on the SWBC website (Resettlement Programme – SWBC – South West Baptist Church).

​Our goal is to see a permanent sponsorship programme established in Aotearoa New Zealand. We believe that former refugees can become fully functioning members of society, in a way that is respectful of their beliefs and culture, contributes to our society, and makes Aotearoa New Zealand a better place.
